Does your child find speaking up and talking in front of others scary?

This club is for kids aged 8-12 who would like to build their confidence in a safe and supportive environment. Over the 7 week course, we will get to know each other (whanaungatanga) through drama games and activities that promote confidence, communication skills, teamwork and spontaneity.

Through speech and drama activities, we will aim to give you the tools to manage nerves, have faith in yourself and develop language and communication tools.

About the tutor

Amy Usherwood was a shy child who grew up in Ōtepōti/Dunedin. She struggled to confidently speak up in class and manage her nerves in larger groups. Taking part in speech and drama classes in her youth allowed her to slowly and steadily build that self-confidence and to have fun along the way. Amy went on to complete a BA in Acting through the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, work professionally in theatre, TV and film and to lead large groups of children as a drama tutor. She is passionate about children's safety and in supporting them to grow a sense of self they feel pride in. She has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and is now completing her Master of Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy at AUT.
