Education Consultant

Karen Blackall, our Education Consultant, is able to help parents successfully navigate the New Zealand education system. Karen offers advice, guidance, practical support and strategies on:

  • Working with students, parents and teachers to collaboratively devise interventions to meet students individual needs
  • Advising parents on how to best manage their child’s behaviour
  • Assisting parents to navigate the education system, advocating for children and parents within the school setting
  • Working with students and teachers to develop and encourage social skills including friendship and relationship skills
  • Providing support and guidance for teachers
  • Interpreting Cognitive and Educational Assessment Reports for parents and following up on recommendations with the school
  • Working alongside students on strategies to assist with executive functioning (impulse control, emotional control, flexible thinking working memory, self-monitoring, planning and prioritising, task initiation and organisation)​


If required, Karen can complete a needs analysis (interviewing parents, teachers and students, observing students and complete any relevant assessments) to analyse issues and challenges faced. 


The needs analysis results in a Behaviour Support Plan for parents and schools. This report includes practical suggestions and strategies; outlining pathways forward for your child.

Our ADHD Consultant, Tracey Rountree is a veteran of the ADHD community and one of the most informed minds on the topic. 


Tracey is also able to draw on her own lived experience, as she has both raised a child with ADHD and been diagnosed herself as an adult.


Tracey can share her insights and expertise on:

  • The importance of routines and rules to help streamline life for the ADHD child
  • Evidence based strategies for living with ADHD
  • Education around characteristics of ADHD
  • How to support ADHD children at school


ASD Consultant

Our autism spectrum disorder (ASD) specialist at Kidz Therapy has a personal perspective of living with ASD every day.


​As the spectrum varies to include obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), sensory issues, learning differences, dyspraxia and anxiety etc, it can be a generational disorder and lifetime disorder. 


Our ASD Consultant can help your whanau with practical advice and assistance in:

  • Navigation of school issues
  • Advocacy at high school and university levels
  • Registration with Government support agencies
  • Employment support agencies
